Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Friday Afternoon and Evening

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Germantown area beginning at 1:00 pm this afternoon until 7:00 pm this evening. A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. “Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving,” said the National Weather Service.

The area is bracing for the first snow storm of the winter which will bring wintery weather to the Germantown area and all of Montgomery County and surrounding counties. Snow is expected begin falling overnight after 1:00 pm, Friday, Dec. 15. Light snow will increase across the advisory area Friday afternoon, with conditions turning icy on any untreated road surfaces., according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected after 1:00 pm on Friday. The National Weather Service is forecasting snow for tonight with accumulations of around 1 to 2 inches of snow for the area.

MoCoSnow, the Germantown Pulse’s weather partner, expects more snow in the southeastern portion of Montgomery County. “This won't be anything huge, but a couple quick inches are all we need to make things a mess out there. The heavier snow will fall east of I-95, but the potential for snow in our area is definitely there. I wouldn't be shocked to see just a dusting, but if there's a last minute shift...we could see an extra inch or so on top of what the NWS is falling for (not very likely, but possible).”

MoCoSnow’s full post on this evening’s storm and a prediction as to if an early dismissal might be in play are available at MoCoSnow.com.
