MCPD Continues to Investigate Tuesday’s Shooting of Two Men on Gunners Branch Road

Detectives from the 5th District-MCPD Investigative Section continue to investigate a double shooting that occurred Tuesday evening in Germantown at near the McDonald’s restaurant at 19660 Gunners Branch Road.

Today, police released the ages of the victims. While the identities of the victims remain undisclosed, Police said that the first victim is a 26-year-old male was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body and is a 27-year-old male was suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. Their injuries are described as non-life threatening. Both victims were transported to an area hospital.

Officer Rick Goodale, a spokesman for the MCPD, said that each victim was shot one time, but he could not say how many more shots were fired in the incident, which took place at about 6:30 pm on Tuesday night.

Police do not believe that this was a random shooting. Investigators believe that both victims knew and were associates of the person or persons who shot them. Officials would not say if this was a gang-related incident or if this could drug related.

At least one other shot was fired into the McDonald’s creating a hole in the eatery’s window, which had not yet been repaired Wednesday morning. The hole is fairly low to the ground, about 16-inches from the floor of the McDonalds. It could be seen this morning, with a caution cone in front of the window for any customers.

Last night police said that both victims had been shot outside the restaurant and ran into the McDonald’s seeking shelter.

This afternoon an MCPD press release said, “This double shooting remains an open investigation. Detectives continue to interview witnesses and canvass the area to gather information and obtain additional details.”

Goodale said that police are still trying to determine how many suspects are involved. He said investigators are canvassing other retail establishments in the area in hopes of finding some surveillance video showing the moments before and after the shooting, which might give detectives clues as to how the event unfolded.

Gunner Branch Road was back open in front of the restaurant Wednesday morning. The area in front of McDonald’s was shut down to traffic for some time Tuesday night as police investigated the incident.

After the incident was reported, police had set up a perimeter throughout the neighborhood, MCPD cruisers could be seen on Middlebrook Road, as well as in the area of Gunners Branch Road and Archdale Road.
