MCFRS Crews Rescue Injured Person After Fall from Horse on Greenway Trail

November 30, 2017

Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel rescued an injured person who had fallen from a horse more than mile into the Greenway Train in Seneca Creek State Park near the Berryville Road entrance in Darnestown.

At a little before 4:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 29 Montgomery County Emergency Services received a call about an injured person on the Greenway Trail. According to MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer, police and EMS crews arriving at the trailhead on Berryville Road were met with two unattended horses, all saddled up with no riders. “Firefighters corralled horses and rescue crews used GPS to better locate injured caller,” Piringer. He said that two people were riding on the trail when one fell from a horse and was injured.

Once EMS crews arrived, the patient was treated and carried part of the way to an ATV and was then transported the rest of the way out of the wilderness to an awaiting EMS crew. The injured adult suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Piringer said, that the horses were eventually walked back to their stable by a neighbor, who later stopped to offer assistance.
