Fire Rescue Responds to Deck Fire at Germantown High Rise

October 18, 2017

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called the to new Alta Liberty Mill Apartments at 19520 Waters Road in Germantown at about 1:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for reports of a fire on the fourth-floor deck of an apartment.

The fire was on the fourth-floor deck of a south-facing apartment on Vaughn Lane. Firefighters quickly gain access to the building extinguished the small, outside fire. No injuries were reported, and the building was not evacuated, however, the fire sprinkler in the apartment and the building’s fire alarms alerted residents — many of which self-evacuated.

Due to the high-occupancy and large nature of the building, MCFRS’ Rapid Intervention Team was dispatched, but the incident was scaled back once the threat was removed. MCFRS fire stations 729 Germantown, 722 Kingsview, 734 Milestone, and 708 Gaithersburg responded.

As a result of the fire and sprinkler activation, there was limited damage to the deck and apartment where the fire took place. No injuries were reported.
