Multi-Vehicle Crash Closed Ridge Road for Hours on Saturday

October 15, 2017

A multi-vehicle collision on Ridge Road in Damascus, near the border of Montgomery, Howard, and Frederick counties, closed Maryland Route 27 for roughly three hours on Saturday afternoon.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the area of Ridge Road near Windsor Forest Road at about 11:30 am on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a collision between three vehicles.

According to MCPFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer, the three-vehicle crash left one person pinned in a vehicle, who needed to be extricated. He reported that two patients were transported to area trauma centers with serious injuries, and another six were transported to local hospitals. It was initially reported that a medevac helicopter would be needed.

Piringer said that six EMS units from all three area counties responded to the scene to deal with the eight total patients from the three vehicle crash. The crash and investigation left Ridge Road closed between Penn Shop Road and MD Rt. 80/Kemptown Road for three hours on Saturday.
