Leggett Visits McNair Elementary for Walk to School Day



International Walk to School Day was highlighted in Germantown with visits from County dignitaries at Ronald McNair Elementary School.

The annual event which encourages parents and children to walk to school was held Wednesday, Oct. 4 throughout the County and the nation. This year Montgomery County officials, including County Executive Isiah Leggett and Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jack R. Smith, greeted students as they entered the Germantown Elementary School.


Other officials welcoming students at McNair Elementary School were Fire Chief Scott Goldstein and the head of Montgomery County Police’s Traffic Division Capt. Tom Didone, as well as local 5th District police officers and members of MCFRS Station 22.

Hundreds of parents and students walked to school on a bright sunny early Fall morning. The kids were greeted by Sparky the Firedog and Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s Crosswalk Zebra.
