Bonner’s Four TDs Help Cougars Maul Coyotes
Doc Bonner and the Quince Orchard Cougars came into Coyote Canyon in Clarksburg as one of the top teams in Montgomery County, and they proved why they are so well regarded. Bonner would throw for two touchdowns and run for two more in Friday’s 63-8 victory over the Coyotes.
The Cougars scored on their first possession, jumping to a 7-0 lead in under two minutes. As senior quarterback Kendell “Doc” Bonner found junior receiver Brendan McGonagle on a 58-yard touchdown pass.
But the Coyotes answered right back with an 80-yard drive. A pass from Clarksburg’s Joe Perkins to Justice Williams put the Coyotes on the QO 16 yard line. The ‘Yotes would find the endzone on a fourth down run by junior Denzel Motuba Samy. Clarksburg would go for, and complete and two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead halfway through the first quarter.
However, that would be the last of the scoring for the team in Carolina Blue.
The Cougars would return the ensuing kickoff to the Clarksburg five-yard line and score on a one-yard run by Tre Wade to retake the lead 14-8. It was the first of Wade’s two TD’s on the night.
