Collision and Fire Creates Delays for Morning Commuters

September 12, 2017

Tuesday morning’s commute down Frederick Road was more congested than normal this morning after a three-car collision and subsequent vehicle fire forced the closure of the road.

According to MCFRS, three cars collided near the intersection of MD-355/Frederick Road and Shakespeare Boulevard at about 8:00 am Tuesday morning, Sept 12. As a result of the crash one of the vehicle caught fire and needed to be extinguished.

The three-car collision sent five patients to local hospitals with minor injuries, said acting MCFRS Public Information Officer Dan Ogren. “During the crash a fire did start in the passenger compartment of one of the vehicles. It was quickly extinguished. To my knowledge no one was burned. We are not sure what part of the impact started the fire.”

The crash also took down a cross-walk signal. The crash, fire, and subsequent clean-up led to the closure of southbound traffic on MD-355 for about an hour-and-half during the morning rush, which snarled traffic for the morning commute.
