Victim Beaten Nearly Unconscious by 10 to 15 Suspects as Mob Tried to Steal His Belt
Montgomery County Police Department reported a number of criminal incidents in Germantown from August 12 through August 29.
Police report that a juvenile victim was assaulted by a group of 10 to 15 male suspects after he left a party during the early morning hours on Sunday, Aug. 27 in area of Waring Station Road and Forest Brook Road in Germantown.
According to police, the victim had left the party and was walking when he saw the group of individuals walking toward him. They assaulted him and attempted to steal his belt. The belt was a Michael Kors designer belt valued at $50, according to police. The assailants were not successful thanks to some bystanders who stepped in to stop the mob.
According MCPD, “The victim almost lost consciousness as the assault was occurring but a couple of bystanders observed the assault and aided him in removing the large number of suspects away from him.” The mob then fled the area on foot. Police do not believe that either the mob or the bystanders were at the party which the victim had just left.
Police said that another strong-arm robbery occurred a few days before in the 19600 block of Gunners Branch Road on August 23. Police said the adult male victim did not report the robbery until 24 hours later. Police said the victim was leaving the McDonalds restaurant on Gunners Branch Road between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm when he said two black males followed him and met up with a third in the parking lot. The victim told police they assaulted him and stole case and property.
Police say that a Germantown woman was arrested after she implicated herself in connection to a strong-arm robbery at a pharmacy when she called police to report that she had been assaulted.
According to MCPD, officers were called to the Rite Aid store at 19927 Century Boulevard in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 28 after a store security employee observed a woman taking items from shelf and hiding them on her person. Upon leaving she was confronted by security, and she began to push and assault the security employee.
Police arrested an adult female Christine Manis, 42, of Germantown after she called police to report that she had been assaulted by an employee at the Rite Aid store.
Police reported a number of residential burglaries:
A residential burglary occurred in the 11900 block of Skylark Road between approximately 1:30 pm and approximately 5:30 pm on Saturday, Aug. 26. No signs of forced entry, a rear garage door was reported to have been left unlocked; property was taken.
Police report another residential burglary took place in the 22700 block of Autumn Breeze Avenue in Clarksburg between approximately 1:15 pm and approximately 1:30 pm on Sunday, Aug. 27. No signs of forced entry, the garage door was reported to have been left open; property was taken.
A residential garage burglary occurred in the 11800 block of Summer Oak Drive in Germantown between approximately 11:59 am on Wednesday, Aug. 23 and approximately 3:00 pm on Sunday, Aug. 26. No signs of forced entry; property was taken.
Another residential garage burglary occurred in the 14000 block of Marketcenter Drive in Clarksburg, between approximately 6:30 pm on Friday, Aug. 25 and approximately 7:00 am on Saturday, Aug. 26. No signs of forced entry, a rear garage door was reported to have been left unlocked; nothing was taken
Police said that two beer and wine stores on Wisteria Drive were the victims of commercial burglaries within 24 hours between Thursday, Aug. 24 and Friday, Aug. 25. According to MCPD, three male suspects broke into the Wisteria Beer and Wine store located at 13220 Wisteria Drive in the early morning hours of August 24. Police say the suspects forced entry into the store and stole property.
The next day the SN Beer and Wine store, located at 12081 Wisteria Drive, was the victim of an attempted commercial burglary during the early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 25, however the burglars were unsuccessful in this case.
MCPD reported a few instances of thefts from vehicles. Police urge all residents to take a role in preventing this type of crime by removing valuables from vehicles and locking all doors.
Two thefts from vehicles occurred in Clarksburg the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 26. One theft occurred in the 13900 block of Estuary Drive and the second theft occurred in the 13800 block of Byrne Park Drive. No force; property was taken.
Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred between August 21 and August 27. Affected streets included Crystal Rock Drive, Churchill Ridge Circle, Rexmore Drive, Skip Jack Drive, Locbury Court, and Wistera Drive in Germantown. Force was reported in multiple events; cash, property, and vehicle parts were taken.
MCPD reminds residents that additional incidents may have occurred and the reports had not yet been received at the time of publication, on September 8.
