Montgomery Parks Offers Bike Share Program at Black Hill Regional Park
Going biking at Black Hill Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park just got a lot easier. Now, you don’t even have to bring your own bike. You can use the bikes offered as part of the new BikeShare program at the parks to explore the trails and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Montgomery Parks has teamed up with Zagster, Inc. to bring a bike share program to the Parks. The program, which launched Thursday, in Black Hill Regional Park and Wheaton Regional Park connects visitors with trails, amenities and nature.
“There are some fantastic paved trails at these parks and through this partnership with Zagster people can simply grab a bike and go. What a great way to experience the outdoors; plus the first two hours are free,” said Casey Anderson, Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board.
The program allows visitors borrow bikes for free for up to two hours, after two hours riders will $3 per hour to rent the bikes.
Zagster’s cruiser bikes feature eight gears, automatic lights, a bell as well as a front basket. The program will make 10 bikes available, five at each location, including one accessible recumbent tricycle located at Wheaton Regional Park. Zagster will own, operate and maintain the bike share system.
To participate in the Montgomery Parks Bike Share Program, each rider must download the Zagster app and enroll for free. Riders without a smart phone can text SMS to (202) 999-3924 to learn how to ride by text message. In Montgomery Parks, Zagster bike share rides under two hours are free. After two hours, riders will pay $3 per hour to continue using the bikes.
