Germantown Coalition Hosts Dinner for Formerly Homeless

August 25, 2017

The Germantown Coalition hosted a dinner for formerly homeless individuals now living in the Ashmore, an apartment complex operated by Coalition Homes.

Germantown Coalition teamed up with Coalition Homes to provide dinner for the residents of the Ashmore based in Germantown. The dinner was held Thursday, August 24 at the Ashmore and residents were served a dinner of consisting of chicken, pasta, meatballs, homemade beans, corn, and many delicious desserts.

“Last night’s event at the Ashmore was a big success,” said Mike Ginsberg of the Germantown Coalition. “Volunteers and residents spent quality time together talking and laughing, enjoying each other’s company. Our community is a great place filled with lots of terrific people with big hearts.  It was a terrific evening, and I strongly believe our world is a better place when the community gets together. What a great way to end the summer of 2017.”

According to Ginsburg, “The residents are all formerly homeless men and women who now live in a beautiful condo provided by the fine people from Coalition Homes, an affiliate of Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, the only developer of permanent supportive housing in Montgomery County. They are wonderful people who deserve a lot of credit and support.”

Coalition Homes acquires, develops and manages permanent supportive housing to meet the needs of the most vulnerable populations. Coalition Homes provides 24/7 property management services in coordination with support services from MCCH.

The dinner was the result of many volunteers and donations from various area businesses and community organizations; including Milanos in Germantown, Chick-Fil-A in Germantown, Woodside Deli in Germantown, as well as donations from the Manna Food bank and volunteers from the ACE Project, which allows high school athletes at Seneca Valley to give back to the community. According to Ginsburg, three members of the Seneca Valley football team volunteered to serve residents at the dinner.

The Germantown Coalition was formed in 2014 with a simple premise in mind; what if local residents band together to help neighbors in need? Germantown Help was formed to support the needs of local charities, philanthropies, schools, and organizations in Germantown.
