Overnight Crash Leaves Car Burning, Sends Two People to Hospital

A car burst into flames after leaving the road and crashing down an embankment last night on Great Seneca Highway. Two people were injured in the collision.

At about 12:30 am, Monday morning, Montgomery County Police and Fire Rescue Service units responded to reports of a car burning after it crashed down an embankment on Great Seneca Highway, near Great Seneca Creek just south of Mateny Road in Germantown.

It is unknown why the four-door passenger vehicle left the road and came to rest down an embankment. According to MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer, first arriving units discovered the vehicle fully involved on fire in the woods. Three adult occupants of the vehicle were able to escape the car. Two occupants were injured and transported by EMS to local hospitals. One passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Some lanes of Great Seneca Highway were closed for hours as crews extinguished the fire and retrieved the vehicle from the wooded area. Piringer said MCFRS were on scene for a few hours to make sure that the all fire in the vehicle was out as it was brought back up the embankment.
