Northwest Hosts Montgomery County Public Safety Police Academy Graduation

On Friday afternoon the Montgomery County Public Safety Academy held graduation ceremonies at Northwest High School for the 64th Session of police officers who will become new patrol officers.

Session 64 included 32 new members of the Montgomery County Police Department, as well as new members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, City of Gaithersburg Police Department, City of Takoma Park Police Department, and Maryland National Capital Park Police.

“We are here to celebrate these men and women for their outstanding achievement,” said County Executive Ike Leggett at the ceremonies. “We are so proud of their great contributions and service and all things that they do to make this community a great place to live. We think about the job they will do, and unfortunately, a large part of our community takes for granted the real difficult sacrifices that they will make.”

“This particular privilege also comes with a great deal of risk. The sacrifices that they will have to make. There will be occasions when they will not be there for events in the family. There will be times when they will have to leave unexpectedly. When they leave in the morning, or whatever time they go to their shifts, there is no certainty that they will all come back home,” said Leggett just before administering the oath of office to the members of Session 64.
