Fire Does $300K Damage to Darnestown Home

The beauty of a sunny summer Saturday afternoon was marred by a house fire which, according to fire officials did more than $300,000 in damage to a Darnestown house.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to 15608 Copperfield Lane in Darnestown shortly after noon on July 15 for reports of a fire and heavy smoke coming from the large single-family home.

According to MCFRS public information officer Daniel Orgren, first arriving units encountered fire and smoke from the rear of the first floor of the three-story house, which was tucked back at the end of a long driveway shared by two other homes.

Once on scene, fire officials called for the Rapid Intervention Dispatch team, which brought is essentially a second-alarm, bringing more manpower to the scene. Because the home was located in a non-hydrant area, a squad of water tanker trucks was called to the scene to supply water to firefighters.

Firefighters knocked down the fire which, according to officials was electrical in nature starting near a computer in the home’s sunroom.

Officials said one family was be displaced as result of the fire and no one was injured, despite the fact that the home’s smoke alarms were not functioning and did not alert the occupants of the fire.
