Germantown Woman Takes 4th Place in Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

For the seventh year in a row, Germantown resident Juliet Lee has been among the top five finalists in the women’s competition of Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The five-foot, five-inch, 100 pound Lee, finished 25 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and buns in 10 minutes and claimed fourth place. The 52-year-old Lee was beaten by Miki Sudo, who ate 41 hot dogs and buns to win the top prize. Second place went to Michelle Lesco, who finished 32 hot dogs, and Sonya Thomas took third place with 30 hot dogs eaten.

The annual competition has been a New York City and Fourth of July tradition for 97 years at the Coney Island boardwalk. Lee has been competing in the contest since 2011. She has finished third in the previous two years eating 27 hot dogs each year. In 2014, Lee managed to get 23 dogs down for a fourth place finish. In 2013, she ate 36 to come in second, while in 2012 she gobbled 33 for third place finish. In her first year, 2011, she finished second with 29.5 dogs eaten.

According to the Major League Eating website, Lee is the 11th-highest ranked Major League Eater in the world and third-ranked woman. She has been competing as a professional eater since December 2006 but is one of the few women ever to earn a chance to compete in The Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Formerly a Ninjing University chemistry professor, Lee became an American citizen in 2000 and owns a hair salon in Germantown. She is a successful businesswoman and mother of two daughters.
