Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Germantown Area

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the Germantown, Damascus, Clarksburg, Poolesville, and Boyds areas until 3:45 pm.
The NWS reports that “At 259 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Leesburg, Va. moving northeast at 40 mph.” The storm has reports of 60 mph winds and quarter size hail.

“Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.”
Potomac Edison reports that 500 customers in Boyds, 150 in Germantown, & 79 in Clarksburg are without power. Montgomery County Police have reported that the traffic signals are out on Fr. Hurley Drive near I-270. Please treat as 3-way stop.
