Hundreds Attend College, Trade School and Financial Aid Workshop at Northwest

May 11, 2017

More than 300 people attended a College, Trade School and Financial Aid Workshop hosted by Congressman John K. Delaney (MD-6) Wednesday evening, May 10 in Germantown. The event was free to attend and open to the public and took place at Northwest High School.

“Education is one of the keys to the American Dream, especially in today’s high-tech global economy,” said Congressman Delaney. “I know first-hand how powerful education can be, my parents weren’t able to attend college, but thanks to their hard work and scholarships I was able to go to college and then on to law school and a career in business. I’d like to thank all of the schools and organizations that participated in this workshop, which was designed to give Marylanders an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the options available to them and make a more informed decision for their family.”

Over 80 schools and organizations participated in the workshop, giving local parents and students an opportunity to speak one-on-one with representatives. Among the schools and organizations in attendance at Wednesday’s event were; University of Maryland, College Park, Ohio State University, West Virginia University, University of California-Berkeley, Plumbers Local 5 Training Facility, University of Georgia, Salisbury University, Potomac Edison Power System Institute, Hood College, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, North America’s Building Trades Unions’ CHOICE Program, Lehigh University, I.A.M.A.W. CREST Program, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, IBEW, U.S. Air Force Academy, Morgan State University, Montgomery College, Omega Recording Studios, Aesthetic Institute of Cosmetology, Universities at Shady Grove, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Penn State University, Mount St. Mary’s University, George Mason University, Virginia Tech, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, University of Iowa, Stanford University, University of Arizona, United States Marine Corps, Villanova University, U.S. Department of Education, United Negro College Fund, Montgomery Educational Opportunity Center, and Maryland 529 among others.
