Police Report Two Armed Robberies Set Up Through Online Selling Apps
Montgomery County Police Department reported a number of criminal incidents in Germantown from March 13 through March 28.
Police reported two separate incidents in which people hoping to buy or sell something online with a selling app, such as OfferUp, LetGo, or Craigslist were met by criminals with weapons looking to rob them of cash and merchandise.
The first took place in the 12500 block of Great Park Circle at approximately 11:00 pm on Friday, March 17. The victim had arranged to purchase an item from one of the online selling apps at the address. The victim was approached by a black male brandishing a handgun and demanding cash. The victim quickly drove away to safety.
The second such incident took place at 2:15 pm on March 20 in the area of Crystal Rock Drive and Black Saddle Lane. A female victim arranged for a transaction through an online selling app. She was approached by a black male with a handgun, who stole her phone and wallet before fleeing the area.
MCPD reported that a US Postal Service letter carrier was the victim of aggravated assault which occurred in the 9400 block of Holsey Road in Damascus at approximately 12:10 pm on Wednesday, March 15. According to police, the female letter carrier was approached while delivering mail from her postal truck by a white male in his 20s. The man asked her if she had a package for certain address on the street. She told him that he didn’t. According to police, the man displayed a knife and walked away.
Montgomery County Police report that a pizza delivery driver was robbed in the 19600 block of Crystal Rock Drive in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 20. According to police, two suspects approached the victim. One suspect waved the pizza delivery employee over to him, while a second man pushed him to the ground from behind and displayed a handgun. Stealing his cash and property.
As a result of a number of these incidents, MCPD’s 5th District in Germantown has created a place where folks completing online transactions can go a feel safe meeting strangers. The two Safe Exchange Zones are in the parking lot of the 5th District Police Station and are under video surveillance. The two designated parking spaces are marked with a Safe Exchange Zone sign. The spaces are in the front lot of the police station located at 20000 Aircraft Drive in Germantown
Police say a Road Rage incident took place between a motorist and motorcyclist in the area of 12800 Wisteria Drive at 7:23 pm on Wednesday, March 20. Police say a driver attempted to strike the driver of a motorcycle a number of times, and eventually knocked the operator off of his motorcycle before fleeing the area.
Police report a number of criminal incidents taking place on Great Park Circle in Germantown. Along with the attempted armed robbery on March 17 which was discussed above, police reported the theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle, and an attempted burglary.
Police said a 2015 Honda Accord was stolen from the 12500 block of Great Park Circle between approximately 6:00 pm on March 24 and approximately 1:13 pm on March 25. The vehicle was reported to have been left unlocked with the keys left inside.
Police also reported an attempted residential burglary occurred in the 12400 block of Great Park Circle between approximately 10:00 am and approximately 4:00 pm on March 25.
A theft from a vehicle was also reported to have occurred in the 12500 block of Great Park Circle between approximately 7:00 pm on March 24 and approximately 9:00 am on March 25. No force, Unknown means of entry; coins were taken.
A Germantown woman was arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery which occurred in the 700 block of Gilbert Street in Silver Spring at approximately 10:12 pm on March 18. Police say that Brittney Blanken, 23, of Germantown and Aliyah Diggs, 18, of Burtonsville were waiting outside of an apartment on Gilbert Street, and approached a male victim who had just left his building. Both suspects displayed knives and demanded cash. When the victim refused to comply, the suspects fled and were later located by MCPD and arrested.
In another incident, police arrested 42-year-old Fernando Morgan-Ordonez on charges of aggravated assault after an altercation at the Deli Plus Beer and Wine located at 19590 Frederick Road at approximately 2:20 pm on March 26. Police say, Morgan-Ordonez and another man had been drinking and got into a disagreement, and one of the men left and came back with a kitchen knife.
Police arrested two 20-year-olds in connection with thefts from vehicles which occurred in the area of Autumn Breeze Avenue and Black Bear Alley in Clarksburg at approximately 6:00 am on March 28. Arrested were Delante Hall and Tandel David Rich both of Germantown.
MCPD reported that a 2007 Chevy Tahoe was stolen from the 100 block of Steeple Court in Germantown between approximately 11:00 pm on March 17 and approximately 12:00 pm on March 18. Unknown entry. The vehicle was recovered on March 20 a few hundred yards away in the area of 19000 Marksburg Court in Germantown.
Two residential burglaries occurred in the following areas:
