The 2017 kindergarten orientation season kicked off earlier this month. During orientation, parents and students will meet the school principal, kindergarten teachers, and other staff members. The sessions — scheduled at every elementary school between April 3 and May 26—are for children who will be five years old by September 1, 2017, and their parents. Parents should call their home school to make an appointment to register for that school’s specific date(s).
If your child will be five years old by September 1, 2017, he or she is eligible to be enrolled in kindergarten. If you know which elementary school boundaries your home address falls into, feel free to call that school and make an appointment for Kindergarten Orientation and to pick up an Orientation packet.
Kindergarten packets are available in many languages besides English. If you have a need for an interpreter, the main office of your school will also be able to schedule an interpreter for you.
Parents who are not sure which elementary school serves their area should contact the Boundaries Office at 240-314-4700 or access the School Assignment Locator on the MCPS website. For more information, call the Division of Early Childhood Programs and Services at 301-230-0676.
