MCFRS Responds to Dryer Fire at Kingsview Middle School
On the first full day of Spring Break for MCPS students and teachers, Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to Kingsview Middle School at 18909 Kingsview Road in Germantown for a report of a fire in the building.
The fire happened around 1:30 pm on Monday, April 10. Units responding from Fire Station 22 arrived on scene but did not find anything showing. However, the building was evacuated, according to MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer. Firefighters investigated and found a large commercial dryer on fire in a room near the rear of the building. The fire was confined to the dryer, said Piringer, however, there were heavy smoke conditions in five rooms in the rear of the school.
While the regular school was not in session for Spring Break, the building, which adjoins the Germantown Community Center was occupied by spring break recreation camps and activities, as well as the usual activities in the community center. The two buildings are joined by the gymnasium.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the dryer itself. Officials reported no injuries and estimated the damage to the dryer to be about $2,500. There was little or no damage to the school itself.
