“Sister Act,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” and “Wizard of Oz” are Spring Drama Productions at Local High Schools

March 22, 2017

The spring high school drama season is in full effect this weekend in the Germantown area, as both Germantown high schools will have performances this weekend, and Poolesville High School will present their production next weekend.

The Northwest Drama Club will present its spring musical production of “Sister Act.” Showtimes are Friday, March 24 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, March 25 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, March 26 at 2:00 pm; Friday, March 31 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, April 1 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, April 2 and 2:00 pm.

“Sister Act” is the story of discodiva, Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder, and is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent. Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. The musical written by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and music by Alan Menken. It is based on the hit 1992 film comedy of the same name.

Tickets are sold at the door only. Prices are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Discounted tickets for senior citizens are available for all matinee shows; two tickets for $15 or one ticket for $10.

Poolesville’s Midnight Players, the theatre club at Poolesville High School, will present “Thoroughly Modern Millie” to be performed March 30, 31 and April 1, 2017.

Millie Dillmount is just your average 1920’s girl who’s ready to take life by the horns and has just arrived in New York City, ready to make her dreams come true. It doesn’t take long, however, for Millie’s adventure to get turned upside down. Her conniving landlady plots to kidnap her best friend, her wealthy boss seems entirely uninterested in her flirtations, and —worst of all — the man with whom she falls head over heels in love doesn’t have a penny to his name.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be presented in the Poolesville High School Auditorium for four performances, Thursday, March 30 at 7:00 pm; Friday, March 31 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, April 1 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets can purchased at the door or in advance at the MCPS ticket site.

The Seneca Valley Drama Club is planning a production of the beloved musical The Wizard of Oz with performances Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31 at 7:00 pm and a matinee performance on Saturday, April 1 at 2:00 pm.

There will be a free backstage tour for middle and high school students following the matinee performance on April 1.

Tickets are on sale now online at the Seneca Valley site. Prices online are $10 for adults, $8 for student/senior, $6 for child under 10, or a family pack for $40. Tickets will also be available at the door for $12 for Adult, $10 for student/senior, $6 for child under 10.

Donate a new coloring supplies for the Johns Hopkin’s Children’s Center and receive a $2 discount on tickets at the door.
