Dickerson Woman Dies After Collision in Hyattstown

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in Hyattstown.

   On Friday, March 3 at approximately 9:29 am, 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Old Hundred Road (Route 109) and the on-ramp for northbound I-270 for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

   The preliminary investigation revealed that a yellow 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound on Old Hundred Road approaching the on-ramp for northbound Interstate 270.  A 2012 Silver Volkswagen Passat was making a left turn from northbound Old Hundred Road onto the on-ramp for northbound I-270. The Volkswagen and the Jeep collided in the intersection.

   The front seat passenger in the Volkswagen, identified as Mary Ann Oden, 69, of Old Hundred Road in Dickerson, was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

   The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Cynthia Leigh Oden, 22, of Brink Road in Germantown, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cynthia Oden is believed to be the granddaughter of the deceased passenger.

   The driver of the Jeep, identified as Russell Paul Hutchinson, 57, of Edgewood Road in New Market, was not injured in the collision.

   This collision remains under investigation. Old Hundred Road at was closed between Frederick Road (MD-355) and Peach Tree Road for about three hours while police investigated the collision.
