Damascus Man Dies in I-270 Crash

Maryland State Police report that a Damascus man was one of two men who died in a fatal collision on northbound I-270 in Frederick County Wednesday night.

State Police say that Anthony L. Hose, 56, of Damascus and Craig C. Sandford, 55, of Martinsburg, WV, were killed when their vehicle left the highway and struck several trees along northbound I-270 near the Scenic Overview and Baker Valley Road in Frederick County. Police were called to the scene approximately 9:47 pm on Wednesday night, March 1.

According to police, Hose was the passenger and Sandford was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette. Police said that the Corvette was operating at a high rate of speed when it changed lanes and struck 2011 Black Volkswagon Jetta which was traveling in an adjacent lane. Police said Sandford lost control of the Corvette and left the roadway along the right shoulder crashing through the guardrail located along the right shoulder of the roadway and struck several trees prior to coming to rest along the right shoulder of Interstate 270. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Northbound I-270 remained closed for approximately two hours, until at 12:20 am, Thursday morning, according to police.
