Sale of an iPhone Online Ends in Armed Robbery

Montgomery County Police Department reported a number of criminal incidents in Germantown from January 15 through January 31.

Police say that a victim was robbed at knifepoint while attempting to sell an iPhone on Lark Song Terrace on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 29. Police say the victim was meeting with a potential buyer after listing the phone on the LetGo.com app. He was instructed to meet the buyer in the 18900 block of Lack Song Terrace.

Upon arrival he was met by two black males in their late teens. Once the potential buyer was given the iPhone he took out a pocket knife and told the victim, “This is mine now.” The two suspects fled on foot. No other description was available.

Montgomery County Police arrested three people in connection with a vehicle that was stolen from a driveway in 10000 block of Watkins Road between the 7:00 am and 7:10 am on Monday, Jan. 20. Police said the 2008 Toyota Rad 4 was left running in the driveway by the owner and stolen. The following day, an MCPD officer noticed a vehicle matching the description on Woodruff Court near Waldorf Drive in Germantown. The office confirmed that the vehicle was the same on stolen the day before and observed three people get into the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and the three occupants arrested.

Arrested were; Dakwon Kinte Simms, 21, from Montgomery Village; Eric Maurice James, 18, also from Montgomery Village, a 17-year-old male also from Montgomery Village. Simms has been arrested by MCPD five time in the last year, and three times in the December and January on charges ranging from Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle to Burglary and assault charges.

MCPD report that a strong-armed robbery occurred at 8:49 pm on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Regal Cinema on Century Boulevard. According to police, a juvenile victim was assaulted and had property stolen from him by a suspect in his late twenties. Police report the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Police report an aggravated assault occurred in the 12400 block of Great Park Circle at approximately 7:00 pm on January 17. The suspect, a black male in his late teens, displayed a weapon and assaulted the victim.

MCPD report that two commercial burglaries occurred in the area of Doctor’s Drive on January 15. Police said a dental office dental office located at 19531 Doctors Drive was broken into between 6:30 pm and 6:40 pm on Jan. 15. However, nothing was taken. On that same date, an attempted commercial burglary occurred at a doctor’s office located at 19529 Doctors Drive.

Montgomery County Police reported six residential burglaries between January 23 and January 30.

The first occurred in the 20000 block of Westend Court at approximately 8:00 am on January 23. No signs of forced entry; property was taken.

Three separate residential burglaries took place on Thursday, Jan. 26.

On occurred in the 11400 block of Palace Circle between approximately 8:30 am and approximately 5:00 pm on Jan. 26. No signs of forced entry, the rear sliding glass door was reported to have been left unlocked; property was taken.

Another occurred in the 19000 block of High Point Drive between approximately 8:45 am and approximately 9:45 pm on Jan 26. No signs of forced entry, a window was reported to have been found unlocked; nothing was taken.

A residential burglary and a theft from vehicle occurred at the same residence in the 19700 block of Vaughn Landing Drive in the early morning hours of Jan 26. No forced entry, the garage door was reported to have been left unlocked; nothing was taken.

Police report a residential burglary occurred in the 12600 block of Grey Eagle Court between approximately 10:00 am and approximately 11:00 pm on Saturday, Jan. 28. Forced entry; property was taken.

Another burglary was reported in the 19500 block of Frederick Road between approximately 9:15 am and approximately 3:00 pm on Monday, Jan. 30. No signs of forced entry; property was taken.

MCPD report that one person was arrested in connection with multiple thefts from vehicles which occurred in the 19400 block of Caravan Drive in the early morning hours of January 23. No force, vehicles were possibly left unlocked; cash and property were taken. Police said 24-year-old Dylan Jovan Bennett, of an unconfirmed address, was arrested after he was caught on videotape by a homeowner’s surveillance system rifling through vehicles on Caravan Drive.

Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred between January 22 and January 23. Affected streets include the 10600 block of Shasta Court and the 25100 block of Tralee Court. No force; unknown means of entry into any of the vehicles; property was taken.

Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred between January 26 and January 29. Affected streets include Vaughn Landing Drive, Lowfield Drive, Lowfield Terrace, and Amethyst Lane. No force, one vehicle was reported to have been left unlocked, unknown means of entry into the other vehicles; change and property were taken.

Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred during this reporting period. Affected streets include Kings Crossing Boulevard, Gassaway Lane, Timko Lane, Mateny Road, and Cottage Field Lane. Force was reported in two events, one vehicle was reported to have been left unlocked, unknown means of entry into the other vehicles; cash and property were taken.

MCPD reminds residents that additional incidents may have occurred and the reports had not yet been received at the time of publication, on February 9.
