Fire Rips Through SUV

At about 4:30 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 24, Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service personnel were called to the intersection of Blunt Road and Red Buckeye Terrace in Germantown for a vehicle fire. The first arriving unit, paramedic engine 734 arrived to find a well-involved SUV with flames coming from the interior cabin of a Mitsubishi Montero.

The driver managed to escape without injury. According to MCFRS senior spokesman, Pete Piringer, “The driver indicated she smelled something funny pulled over and a few moments later the car burst into flames, likely an issue with the fuel line and is believed to have originated in the engine compartment.”

Piringer said it took firefighters about 15 minutes to knock down the fire and extinguish the vehicle. The vehicle was a complete loss.

The fire closed blunt road at Red Buckeye Terrace in both directions for about 20 minutes, and later only one lane could get by until the scorched remains of the SUV could be towed away.

Editors Note: An earlier version of this story stated the intersection incorrectly.
