Fire Destroys Hyattstown Home

A fire destroyed a home in Hyattstown, injuring one person overnight. The fire which was reported at approximately 2:15 am on Monday, Jan. 23 destroyed the home in the 26400 block of Haines Road, off Lewisdale Road in Hyattstown.
Firefighters arrived to a structure heavily engulfed in flames and smoke. According to Pete Piringer, senior spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service, the fire did about $700,000 in damage to the home which was located in a non-hydrant area. Firefighters had to set up a water tanker relay system to fight the blaze.

For a while overnight, fighters thought the perhaps on occupant was unaccounted for, but that occupant was later found nearby, according to Piringer. One civilian was treated and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
