Two Fires Mar Holiday Weekend in Germantown

Two fires in townhouses almost exactly 24 hours apart have marred the holiday weekend for some residents in Germantown.

The latest fire happened Sunday evening shortly before 7:30 pm tonight, Sunday, Jan. 15, when Montgomery Fire Rescue Service units were called to 12131 Brittania Circle for a kitchen fire in a three-story middle-of-the-row townhouse. While all the occupants escaped the fire and no one was hurt, fire officials reported that the fire did extend to the rear wall and rear deck of the townhouse.

According to Pete Piringer, senior spokesman for the MCFRS it was likely that two adults and two children would be displaced from the residence due to the damage to the townhouse which is estimated at more the $10,000.

Meanwhile, just 25 hours earlier, more than 50 firefighters and numerous MCFRS units were called to 13115 Thackery Place in Germantown for fire in the attic and eaves of a two-story middle-of-the-row townhouse at that location.

Piringer said at least six residents and two pets had been displaced by the fire which was reported at 6:17 pm on Saturday, Jan. 14. Firefighters had to assist one occupant out of the residence, while others were able escape without injury.
