Local MoCo Recreation Events for January

January 7:  Intro to Ballet

Germantown Community Recreation Center

For ages 5-9, eight sessions, 10-10:45 am Cost is $75. Course # 25235

    Courses are for youth with physical disabilities. Discover the basics and fundamentals of classic ballet vocabulary and technique. An informal and nurturing setting will introduce students to the importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm and musicality in a fun safe environment. Basics of performance will be covered over an 8-week session. Enjoy a parent performance on the last day of class. Register online at ActiveMONTGOMERY.org

 

January 8:  Basic Spanish Class

Damascus Senior Center

     1:00 pm Zuleyma or a volunteer will lead this class.  Learn to speak basic conversational Spanish that is easy and fun to learn.  The class may have a small fee to cover the purchase of materials. (Class time subject to change.)

 

January 12:  Kickboxing

Commotion Fitness Studio

13220 Wisteria Drive, Germantown

    6:30-7:30 pm For ages 18 and up. Strengthen your entire body, release everyday stress and improve your self-confidence. Fight to be fit by packing cardio and total body toning into one punch with this authentic; kickboxing inspired workout. Participants have to bring their own boxing gloves. January 16:  Registration starts for Adult Softball Leagues

Register by February 24 and receive an early bird discount.

    Divisions are offered for men’s and co-ed teams, including age group divisions for men; 50-plus, 55-plus and 60-plus; and women 40-plus. Single-game leagues have a 14-game season and doubleheader leagues have a 20-game season.  A nine-week informal league is also available as a more socially oriented program. Regular-season play begins the week of April 17. For team fees, call 240-777-6893.

 

January 16:  4th Annual Fundraiser for Wounded Veterans Zumbathon

Damascus Senior Center

   10:00 am-12:30 pm The Damascus Senior Center Sponsors, Incorporated (DSCSI) will pay honor to our wounded veterans with a Zumbathon and raise money for these veterans through the Fisher House Foundation of MD. There will be a number of dynamic instructors who will donate their time. Suggested donation is $20. Cash or checks made to the Damascus Senior Center, Incorporated (Please write in the memo box on the check for Fisher House Foundation) and DSCSI will send one check to the Fisher House Foundation of Rockville, MD.)

 

January 17: Summer Camp Registration Begins
