The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Germantown area beginning at 6:00 pm tonight until 5:00 am Friday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. “Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving,” said the National Weather Service.
The area is bracing for the first impacts of a storm which will bring wintery weather to the Germantown area and the entire Washington D.C. region. Light snow is expected begin falling after 2:00 pm today, Thursday, Jan. 5 and continue overnight making travel conditions hazardous for the evening commute and possibly affecting the Friday morning commute.
“Travel may become difficult due to reduced visibilities and snow covered and icy roads,” said the advisory.
Cold temperatures make conditions possible for light accumulating snow this afternoon and tonight. The National Weather Service is forecasting snow for tonight with accumulations of around one to two inches of snow by morning for the Germantown area.
MoCoSnow, the Germantown Pulse’s weather partner has posted an updated prediction for the possibility of a school closure or delay for the morning.
