Police Continue to Investigate Death of Man Hit by Train

January 5, 2017

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division of the MCPD are continuing to investigate the death of an adult male who was fatally struck by a train on New Year’s Eve in near the Germantown MARC station.

On Saturday, December 31 at approximately 9:39 pm, 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a MARC commuter train on the tracks in the area of the Germantown MARC train station located at 19311 Mateny Hill Road.

The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was in the area of the tracks when, for reasons still under investigation, he was struck by a westbound MARC commuter train.  The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to MCPD spokesman Rick Goodale, investigators continue to work toward making an identification of the victim. Due to the nature of the incident, investigators may have to use dental records to get a correct identification, and that can take some time. The victim’s identity will be released once family notifications have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.

This is the second time in two years that a person has been killed by a train near the MARC train station in Germantown. On January 2, 2015, a 20-year-old man from Germantown was struck and killed by an eastbound CSX train at 1:37 am.
