Barons Top Jags, 53-41

The Northwest boys basketball traveled south to play the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons Friday night and came up a bit short losing 53-41 as the Barons improved to 2-3 on the season and dropped the Jaguars to 1-4.

The Jags hung with the Barons early, but a 17 point second quarter gave B-CC a 10 point 27-17 lead at halftime. The Jags defense buckled down in the third holding the Barons to just seven points, but a 19 point fourth quarter by BCC allowed the Barons to maintain the lead until the finish.

The Jags were led by sophomore Adrian Thomas who had 18 points. The junior had six field goals and was five-of-six from the foul line. James Assiongbon and Nick Yankum-Nyaa added seven points each, but the Jags were unable to counter the Barons.

B-CC was led by senior Cameron Galic with 22 points on 11 field goals, while Thomas Baer added 11 points. He was eight-of-10 from the foul line.

The Jags will host unbeaten 4-0 Richard Montgomery on Monday at 7:15 pm and travel to also unbeaten 4-0 Kennedy on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 7:15 pm. The Jags will also participate in the Winter Tournament December 27 and December 28, before playing cross-town rivals Seneca Valley on Jan. 6.

In other Northwest basketball news, the Lady Jags split games this week, beating Blake on on the road Wednesday night 60-54, but falling to the Lady Barons of B-CC 61-39 on Friday night. The 1-4 Lady Jags will play 3-1 Richard Montgomery on Monday night.
