Senior guard Michael Winterburn’s 23 points led the Clarksburg Coyotes to their third victory of the season over Einstein on Friday night.
The Coyotes rebounded from Monday night’s 78-62 loss at Richard Montgomery with a 71-63 victory over the Titans. Clarksburg started sluggish going down 28-17 in the first quarter but came back in the second with a 25 point team effort in the second quarter. The Coyotes had three players with at least five points in the eight minute period, including Winterburn and junior Stephen Armstrong with six each, and junior Alexander Behzadi with five points.
The team effort brought the Coyotes to within one point at the half, 42-43. Senior Ian Krishnan finished the game with 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the early going to allow the Coyotes to keep pace.
It was Winterburn who paced the Coyotes hitting eight field goals and seven out of eight shots from the free throw line on his way to 23 points.
Senior Ryan Costin added eight more points with six coming down the stretch in the fourth quarter help secure the victory for Clarksburg.
Einstein’s Kalal Bowen led all scorers with 28 points in a losing effort.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 3-1 on the season. They will play at 2-2 Springbrook on Monday, Dec. 19 in their last game before the holiday break. Springbrook is coming off a 57-55 victory over B-CC on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The Blue Devils other victory is over Poolesville, and they have losses to Seneca Valley and Churchill.
Einstein falls to 2-3, with losses to Quince Orchard, Northwood, and Clarksburg, and wins over Blair and Williamsport.
