Police Investigate Gunshot on Crystal Rock Drive

Montgomery County Police Major Crimes detectives are investigating a home invasion and shooting which took place on Wednesday, Nov. 30 in the 19500 block of Crystal Rock Drive at approximately 4:00 in the afternoon. However, no one was injured by the gunshot.

On that afternoon, neighbors reported hearing a gunshot from an apartment and saw two men flee the scene. Officers from the 5th District responded to the apartment at 19554 Crystal Rock Drive where, according to reports at the time of incident over the police radio, the victim told police he had answered his door and two men were at his door, and one had a handgun pointed at him. The two suspects allegedly busted into the second-floor apartment and fired a black semi-automatic handgun.

MCPD spokesman Rick Goodale confirmed that a shot was fired in the apartment, but MCFRS EMS did not transport any victims. Goodale confirmed that detectives found “items of evidentiary nature in the apartment,” but would not confirm that a shell casing was found. Police do not believe that this was a random incident.

The two suspects remain at large. Unconfirmed reports stated that two suspects were light-skinned black males, who fled the area in a white work van, but police could not confirm those reports.

The incident, which took place as students and residents were arriving home from school and work, has spooked neighbors. One resident of The Hamptons Apartments said, was scary enough to make him want to leave the neighborhood. "We reached out to a new apartment complex right after this incident,” said Marc Sherman who lives in the area. “This neighborhood is terrible. I don't even feel safe to sit in my own home," said Marc Sherman.

Montgomery County Police continue to investigate this incident.
