Police Investigating Body Found Near Game Preserve Road as Homicide
Montgomery County Police announced Monday, Nov. 28 that they are investigating the death of the body found near Game Preserve Road as a homicide and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the victim.
Detectives say that the body found by hikers on Saturday, Nov. 12 in a shallow grave in a wooded area near the 11500 block of Game Preserve Road is that of a Hispanic male, believed to be in his late teens to early twenties, and approximately 5-foot, 6-inches tall. While the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore continues to investigate the cause and manner of the person’s death and has not determined that the death is a homicide, Montgomery County detectives have opened a homicide investigation into the death of the unidentified male.
According to police, the Medical Examiner’s Office believes it is possible that the victim has been in the woods since the late summer of this year.
The wooded area where the body was found is part of the Great Seneca Creek Park, which creates a natural border between Germantown and Gaithersburg. Game Preserve Road runs through that portion of the woodlands. There are some homes along Game Preserve Road which runs from Clopper Road northeast to Frederick Road and beyond, but it is essentially a wooded area.
In an effort to gain the public’s help in identifying the victim, detectives are releasing representative photos of the shirt and shoes that the male was wearing when he was discovered in the woods. The shirt is a button-down, long-sleeve shirt with a red and black camouflage-like design. The shoes are black, size eight Aldo brand men’s sneakers.
Detectives urge anyone who has information regarding the identity of this victim to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. For those who wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
In August of 2015, hunters discovered another male body in a shallow grave in a different wooded area of the parkland about three miles north in Great Seneca Stream Valley Park off Germantown Road. In December 2015, four suspected members of the MS-13 street gang were arrested in connection with that murder.
Montgomery County Police detectives from the Major Crimes Division charged the four suspects for the homicide of 34-year-old Marvin Misael Vargas-Osorio of Gaithersburg. It was Vargas-Osorio whose body was found in the shallow grave by hunters in Great Seneca Stream Valley Park on August 29, 2016. The body of Vargas-Osorio was found just off the Greenway Trail, approximately 200 yards from Watkins Mill Road/Germantown Road, according to police.
