After Tragic Loss, Clarksburg Family Creates The Patrick Shifflett Foundation

One of the families that lost a son in the tragic car crash has created a foundation to provide students with education assistance and support programs. The family of Patrick Shifflett formed The Patrick Shifflett Foundation and will host its first fundraiser tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Chipotle restaurant on Century Boulevard in Germantown.

On June 8, the Clarksburg community woke to horrible news of the deaths of three student athletes. Jacob Dennis, Cary Green and Patrick Shifflett died in a tragic car crash the night before. Speed and driver inexperience were considered a factor and no alcohol was involved in the accident. This was on the heels of the death of another Clarksburg student, John DeReggi, who died after being struck by an Amtrak train in Boyds. But what happens after days of news coverage, candle light vigils and standing-room-only funerals? In the case of the family of Patrick Shifflett, it was the start of a foundation to help local kids in need and to keep Patrick’s memory alive.

The Patrick Shifflett Foundation was started by Patrick’s parents and family to provide deserving students with educational assistance and support programs in Montgomery County. The foundation will also award scholarships for students graduating from Clarksburg High School who exemplify the courage, character, and work ethic that Patrick was known for.

To raise money, the foundation is holding a dine-In fundraiser at the Chipotle in Germantown at 19881 Century Boulevard on Tuesday, November 22 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm with 50 percent of all sales to benefit the foundation.

The Shifflett family chose Chipotle because it was a favorite of Patrick and his friends. The family is asking the community to come out to support this worthy cause and honor the life of their son.
