Youth Basketball Coach Charged with Soliciting Sex with a Minor

November 10, 2016

A youth basketball coach has been charged with Sexual Solicitation of a Minor after he posted an ad on Craigslist looking for “a local young lady.”

Montgomery County Police have charged “Oscar” Asil M. Din, 44, of the 13300 block of Dovedale Way in Germantown with Sexual Solicitation of a Minor. He was released on bail after payment of a $10,000 bond, according to police. Asil has been a basketball coach with the Classics AAU Basketball Club based in Rockville, where he is an assistant coach of the sixth/seventh grade boys team.

Police say that on November 1, Montgomery County Police Vice and Intelligence officers were reviewing postings under the “Casual Encounters” section of Craigslist and began an online correspondence with an individual who posted as “Oscar” looking for “a local young lady.”

According to police, a female officer, acting in an undercover capacity as a 15-year-old female, responded to the posting. She received a response from “Oscar” and furthered the conversation by acknowledging that she was just 15 years old. The suspect, while concerned about her age, continued email and text communication and eventually asked when they could meet in person. He wrote that he would like to have sex with her on a regular basis, and would pay her $100 each time it occurred. Through further investigation, detectives were able to confirm his true identity and obtain a photograph of him.

After exchanging several emails, a meeting was arranged on November 8 at the Rockville Metro Station. The suspect arrived at the Rockville Metro Station for the scheduled meeting to pick up the girl. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Anyone who may have concerns about Din’s inappropriate association with a minor should contact MCPD Vice and Intelligence detectives at 240-773-5958.
