Jags Tame Coyotes, 41-10

The Northwest running game proved too much for the Clarksburg defense on Friday night in The Canyon at Clarksburg. Back Kahlil Owens and Juwon Farri combined for five rushing touchdowns to help the Jaguars improve to 6-3 as the playoffs begin to take shape.

The postseason is shaping up for another epic first round Northwest vs. Quince Orchard postseason matchup, but a number of things have to fall into place. Mostly, according to Northwest Head Coach Mike Neubeiser, the Jags must beat Wootton next week.

“We know that playoffs are coming up and we are trying start clicking on all cylinders,” said the senior runner Kahlil Owens. “We are trying to put the best people out there so we can make a big run.” Owens knows a thing or two about big runs. He broke off a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown in Friday’s victory over Clarksburg.

“The running game was big for us tonight,” said Neubeiser. “Junwon and Kahlil had big games both had big runs.”

While Owens, Farri, and the offense did most of the heavy lifting, Neubeiser praised the effort of his defense. “Our defense played well, they started off real strong and got some three-and-outs early. This was the first time we came out fast and got stops early,” he said.

Clarksburg’s touchdown came midway through the second quarter as Coyote running bak John Robinson ran it in from four-yard out to cut the Jags lead to 27-7.

The Jags improve to 6-3 with the victory and will travel to 5-4 Wootton next week. The Patriots are coming off a 46-31 victory over Churchill. Clarksburg falls to 3-6 and will travel to 1-8 Springbrook next week. The Blue Devils are coming off a 46-6 loss to Aberdeen.
