Owens' 3 TDs Help the Jags Top Churchill, 40-6

October 22, 2016

The Jags used quarterback by committee to get back to their winning ways against Churchill after last week’s loss to Quince Orchard. Senior running back Khalil Owens had three touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air on Senior Night at the Black Hole in Germantown.

The Jags came out with a new look to start the game with junior Norval Black at quarterback for the first possession. After both teams had traded possessions, Owens got the scoring started in the first quarter with a 65-yard touchdown run to stake the Jags to a 6-0 lead with 1:29 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs got on the board with a touchdown of their own to tie the game at 6-6. However, shortly after that Owens would rumble to the endzone again in the second quarter to regain lead to 12-6. The Jags would convert on the two-point conversion on a pass from Chris Craddock to Norval Black.

The Jags would take advantage of Churchill fumble on the kickoff. This time it would Norval Black throwing to Owens in the endzone to extend the lead to 21-6.

Senior running back Kharyi Davis would further extend the Northwest lead with a touchdown run at the end of the first half, to give the Jags a 27-6 lead at halftime. The kick would fail.

Early in the fourth quarter junior running back Juwon Farri would break a 48-yard touchdown run to further extend the Jags lead to 34-6. Senior Nicholas Nicholas’ kick would be good.

The Jags last touchdown was set up by a sack by senior linebacker Sam Pagella which forced the Bulldogs to punt. Once again it was Khalil Owens coming up big with a 35-yard return to put Northwest in good position.

The Jags third different quarterback would find a receiver in the endzone. This time it was senior Ayite Assiongbon hitting junior Donnell Bannister to end the scoring at 40-6.

The Jags improve to 5-3 with the victory and will be on the road for their last two games. Next week they travel to 3-5 Clarksburg, who are coming off a heartbreaking loss on a blocked extra point to Richard Montgomery, 28-27.
