The Seneca Valley Screamin’ Eagles met the Wheaton Knights on the field of valor in front of a Homecoming Night crowd in Germantown and sent the Knights home to heal their wounds and repair their armor. Seneca Valley vanquished the Knights 48-8.
Seneca’s senior running back Adrian Platt and the staunch Eagles defense battered the Knights on Friday night. Platt would pound his way into the endzone four times in the first half staking the Eagles to a 35-0 lead at halftime.
It took Platt and Seneca just one minute and thirteen seconds to score the first touchdown of the game, a 16-yard scamper.
The Knights would start what looked like a promising drive. The sophomore backfield tandem of quarterback Shavon Cameron and running back London Lampkin would combine for a first down and show some of the fire which earned the Knights a 3-3 record coming into Friday night’s game. Cameron would connect on a pass to senior receiver Perry Ellis to move the ball into Seneca Valley territory, but the drive would stall, and the Knights would punt.
Seneca would take over inside their own 20 yard-line. A handoff to Platt would earn eight yards. The Eagles would move to midfield on a dump pass from senior quarterback Zack Robinson to Platt, who would run for some tough yards after the catch. It would be Platt again carrying the ball down to the Wheaton 15 yard-line.
Seneca will be without the services of the second-half of their two-punch backfield after Darius Golston went down with a serious knee injury on a scoring play in last week’s victory over Watkins Mill.
In the absence of Golston, junior running back Derell Beckett-Simms has been pressed into service. Beckett-Simms would score the second touchdown, on a 15-yard sweep to put the Eagles up 14-0 with 1:49 remaining in the half.
The second quarter would be the Adrian Platt show, as he would score three more touchdowns to give the Screaming Eagles a 35-0 lead at halftime.
Seneca Valley would score on the first possession of the second half to extend the lead to 42-0. Wheaton would get on the board late in the game to cut the final score to 48-8 and prevent the shutout.
The 6-1 Screamin’ Eagles are home again next week to face the 4-3 Blake Bengals. Blake has wins over Springbrook, Wheaton, and is coming off a 48-0 victory over Magruder on Friday night. While Wheaton, now 3-4 will host 2-5 Northwood next Friday.
