Armed Robbery Victim Forced to Take Money from ATM in Germantown

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 5th District Investigative Section are continuing to investigate an armed robbery of a resident that occurred early morning on Sunday, Oct. 2, in Germantown. Investigators are releasing surveillance photographs of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

On Sunday, Oct. 2 at approximately 2:07 am, 5th District officers responded to the area of Great Seneca Highway and Grey Eagle Court for the report of an armed robbery. Officers met with the adult male victim, in his early twenties, who stated to officers that he was walking on the sidewalk of southbound Great Seneca Highway near Grey Eagle Court when the suspect approached him on foot. The suspect displayed a handgun and instructed the victim to withdraw money from the nearest bank ATM.

The victim further stated to officers that the suspect forced him to walk roughly 900 feet to the SunTrust Bank, located at 12605 Wisteria Drive and withdraw an undisclosed amount of currency from the bank’s ATM. The victim gave the suspect the money and the suspect fled from the area on foot. After the robbery, the victim walked home and called the police.

Investigators obtained surveillance photographs of the suspect from the SunTrust Bank ATM and are asking anyone with information regarding the suspect or this armed robbery to call the 5th District Investigative Section at 240-773-6237. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.

This is the second armed robbery of a pedestrian on the area of Great Seneca Highway between Wisteria Drive and Dawson Farm Road in 33 days. On August 31, at about 9:30 pm, was robbed at gunpoint while walking in the area of Grotto Land and Great Seneca Highway. Police did not say that the two incidents are related but detectives are looking into that possibility. In the first robbery, police say the suspect walked up to the victim, displayed the weapon and took the adult male victim’s cash and cellphone.
