Germantown Woman Struck by Car in Rockville
Montgomery County Police say a Germantown woman is fighting for her life after she was struck by a car on Tuesday evening in Rockville as she attempted to cross Rockville Pike.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in Rockville at 7:16 pm in area of Rockville Pike (MD 355) and East Middle Lane in Rockville.
According to police, a preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by Raphael Olegario, 43, of the 4200 block of East West Highway in Chevy Chase, was traveling south on Rockville Pike. A pedestrian, identified as Marchelle Lindsey Edwards, 28, of the 13400 block of Duchin Road in Germantown, was crossing Rockville Pike in a western direction at East Middle Lane when she was struck by the Honda.
Marchelle Edwards was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
Rockville Pike and East Middle Lane were closed in both directions for a number of hours Tuesday night as detectives investigated the scene of the collision.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, to include what the traffic signal indicated at the time of the collision and whether the pedestrian was in the area of the crosswalk.
