Germantown Man Charged With Soliciting Sex From a Juvenile

January 6, 2016

Montgomery County Police have arrested and charged a 30-year-old Germantown man with sexual solicitation of a minor after an undercover on-line sting operation. Police are urging anyone with information about the man to contact investigators as soon as possible.

On December 3, detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Vice and Intelligence Unit charged Daniel Read, 30, of the 12407 Hickory Tree Way in Germantown, with sexual solicitation of a minor.

Detectives believe there may be additional juveniles that Read has contacted. Investigators are asking anyone who may be a victim or who has information regarding Read’s activities, to please call the Vice and Intelligence Unit at 240-773-5958.

Read’s arrest stems from an undercover sting operation that began in late October. A detective with the Vice and Intelligence unit created an undercover profile on a social media network posing as a 17-year-old, male high school student. An individual, later identified as Read and using the screen name of “Dan”, contacted the detective and exchanged messages with whom Read thought was a juvenile.

The detective exchanged several messages with Read and advised him that the juvenile in the undercover profile was actually 15 years old. Read continued to send messages to the undercover profile and expressed his desire to have sex with, what Read now believed to be, a 15-year-old boy. Read arranged for a meeting at a McDonalds restaurant in Germantown.

On December 3 at approximately 7:30 am, Read arrived at the McDonalds located in Germantown Center at 12982 Middlebrook Road for the meeting. Detectives met Read in the parking lot of the McDonalds and arrested him.

Read was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with one count of sexual solicitation of a minor. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond. His trial date is set for Jan. 22.
