Police Make Arrest in Shoppers Store Lot Robbery Thanks to Tip From Public

January 13, 2016

Montgomery County Police have arrested a Germantown man in connection with last week’s armed robbery in the parking lot of the Shoppers Store on Mateny Road and Great Seneca Highway.

Detectives from the 5th District Investigative Section have arrested Timothy Charles Washington, 36, of the 13067 Open Hearth Way in Germantown, for the January 3 robbery of an adult male in the parking lot of the Shoppers grocery store located at 18066 Mateny Road in Germantown.

On January 4, detectives released photographs of the suspect and asked for the public’s help in identifying him. Detectives received a tip which led to the identification of Washington as the suspect. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Washington and arrested him in the area of his home on January 7.

Washington, who has a number of previous arrests according to Maryland Case Search, was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with one count of robbery, one count of first-degree assault, and one count of theft less than $1,000. Washington is being held on a $75,000 bond.
