Seneca Valley Defeats Poolesville 42-20, in Season Opener
he Screaming Eagles of Seneca Valley traveled to Poolesville for their 2016 season opener feeling pretty confident on the 20-minute ride. The Eagles knew they had recent history on their side — in last season’s opener Seneca dismantled Poolesville 41-13. They also knew that their dynamic duo of a backfield, of Adrian Feliz-Platt and Darius Golston, were back for their senior season, with the return of senior quarterback Zack Robinson.
While Robinson was the starting quarterback two years, (he is returning from a knee injury), the Eagles had just one other offensive starter returning this year, and just two starters back on the defense, so there may have been some trepidation before the first crack of pads on Friday night.
That shadow of doubt grew darker as Seneca failed to score on its first drive after moving the ball down to the Poolesville five-yard line on three runs by Feliz-Platt and Golston. A false start penalty moved the Eagles back to the 10-yard line and brought up 2nd and goal. Seneca tried a pass which was incomplete. A second pass from Zack Robinson was broken up by Poolesville’s senior safety, Colin Fisher.
