Report: Germantown Drivers Pay Slightly More Than Maryland Average for Auto Insurance

Drivers in Germantown pay about $11 more for auto insurance than the Maryland average, according to a report by ValuePenguin.com.

When it comes to auto insurance prices, vary greatly between states, and also vary between towns within states. The study of Maryland yielded an average cost of $1,317 per year for profiled driver's car insurance, but can go as high as $2,302 per year to as low as $1,010 per year depending on location, said the report by ValuePenguin.com. Germantown came in just $11 higher than the average, at $1,328 per year, $9 less than Rockville and $69 less than Gaithersburg. Indeed, Germantown was the least expensive in Montgomery County, among the 39 Maryland towns and cities the report studied.

While Wheaton was the most expensive in Montgomery County at $1,526 per year, it was still far cheaper than the state’s most expensive city for auto insurance — Baltimore at $2,302 per year, according to the study. Hagerstown was the least expensive at $1,010 per year, followed by Cumberland at $1,019 per year and Frederick at $1,046 per year.

ValuePenguin.com collected quotes from eight car insurance companies across the 39 towns and cities in Maryland, which it explored in this study. “Our sample driver was a 30-year-old male who drove a Toyota Camry. To obtain quotes, we kept parameters for getting coverage the same, such as that he was single, had a good credit score and a clean driving record. The only parameter that changed was the zip code where he lived,” according to the study.
