Overnight Improvements to Rt. 121 Overpass Will Cause Delays on I-270 in Clarksburg Next Week

Improvements to the Route 121/Clarksburg Road bridge over I-270 will create overnight delays for traffic in both directions on I-270 beginning at 9:00 pm Monday night, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Belfast Bridge and Restoration, the contractor in charge of the repair project on the overpass, which is part of repairs to the interchange required for the opening of the Clarksburg Premium Outlets in October, will be placing structural steel on the overpass beginning Monday, August 8.

The work, which is being done by subcontractor High Steel Structures, is expected to take four nights. “Double land closures on I-270 will begin a 9:00 pm and run through 5:00 am each night. From 12:00 am midnight to 5:00 am, there will be intermittent total closures of I-270 for 14 minutes while the structural steel is placed over the roadway,” said a public notice from Pleasants Construction, Inc. provided to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

“If inclement weather precludes us from beginning Monday, we will begin Tuesday night and continue Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights until the work is complete. We will also have single lane closures on MD 121 at I-270 during the same periods,” continued the public notice memo.
