Man Drowns in Poolesville Pond

Montgomery County Police have identified the body of the man who was recovered from a pond in Poolesville on Sunday.

Police say, Eric Ross Abraham, 61, of the 12900 block of Melville Lane in Fairfax Va. drown accidently in the pond on the Izaak Walton League property off West Willard Road in Poolesville. Police say that the drowning was accidental in nature, and no foul play is suspected.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the property which is owned by the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, shortly after 11:30 am on Sunday, July 10. Units from Fire Station 14, the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department responded with boat crews and ATVs for a report of an inland water rescue at the pond in a remote area of the 623-acre property. Crews located the body of Eric Ross Abraham and MCPD were called to investigate.

According to the organization’s website, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chapter manages the property as a "Conservation Farm." This conservation farm and all areas with it are a living classroom and outdoor recreational facility for the chapter's more than 1,000 members and their escorted guests.
