BlackRock Features Regional Watercolor Exhibition

BlackRock Center for the Arts is hosting an annual juried exhibition of watercolor paintings through July 16. The exhibition features 92 artists, including one from Germantown.

   The 2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition is the most competitive juried watercolor exhibit in the region. The annual competition and exhibit is sponsored by the Baltimore Watercolor Society and is limited to original paintings created using water-based media on paper created by artists from within a 200 mile radius, which includes Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.

   Germantown artist Janet Belich is among the artists featured in the exhibit. Belich’s work is “Conundrum 2.”

   The juror of selection and awards this year was renowned watercolor artist Joyce Hicks, who selected the winners of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals and 19 other designated awards worth more than $8,000 in cash and sponsored prizes. The medalists this year are Lois A. Wolford, BWS Gold Medal, who received a $1,200 prize for “No Loitering;” Elaine Hoffman, BWS Silver Medal, and $900 prize for “Off to the Peruvian Marketplace;” and Susan M. Stuller, BWS Bronze Medal and $600 prize for “Window Washer.”

   BlackRock Center for the Arts is presenting the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition in The Kay Gallery from through Saturday, July 16, 2016.

   The center will host a Gallery Tours of the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition guided by artist members of the BWS on dates on Saturday, July 9 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Participants will view paintings by 92 juried artists and learn about the techniques used to achieve effects unique to watercolor and other aqueous media as demonstrated in the landscape, still life, portrait, and abstract works on display in The Kay Gallery. Space is limited. Admission is free.
