Office Building Evacuated After Odor Sickens Workers
Workers were evacuated from a commercial building in Germantown after a strange odor left a number of people with headaches.
At about 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 28, MCFRS responded two-story office building in the 20600 block of Seneca Meadows Drive after about a dozen workers in the building reported that odor in the building was giving them headaches. MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer said that EMS evaluated 10 individuals suffering from headaches brought on by the odor. Montgomery County EMS transported one worker to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Firefighters and MCFRS Hazardous-Materials personnel investigated the source of the odor. The building’s first floor is home to eateries such as Café Rio Mexican Grill and Panera Bread, as well as Little Gym, Hair Cuttery, a dry cleaner, and a beer and wine store. The second floor of the commercial building had dental and doctor’s offices.
After about an hour, workers were given the OK by fire officials to return to the building.
