County to Host Zika Virus Town Meeting in Germantown



Montgomery County officials will host a Zika Virus Town Hall meeting on June 29 at the UpCounty Regional Services Center in Germantown. Officials will outline the County’s plans and prevention strategies when it comes to the Zika Virus.


County Health Officer Dr. Ulder Tillman, Director of the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Earl Stoddard, Ph.D., and Department of Environmental Protection Division Chief for Environmental Policy and Compliance Stan Edwards will outline the County’s action plan and provide information on steps residents can take to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites. A question and answer session will follow the briefing.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Sidney Kramer Upcounty Regional Services Center, located at 12900 Middlebrook Road in Germantown.

The Zika Vrus is spread to people through bites of Aedes mosquitoes, according to the County’s Zika Virus website. The symptoms of Zika virus infection are fever, rash, muscle and joint pain and conjunctivitis (red eyes) Symptoms are usually mild and can last from several days to a week.
